The Child of The Lusiads or A Filha d'Os Lusíadas is an idea for a Young Adult historical fiction adventure.
The story is a sequel to the reimagining of one of Luís de Camões' romances. This premise sprung when working on a commissioned animation about his life.
When teenagers study Camões' Opera prima for the first time, they find it hard to relate to. Readers are at a crucial age. Some lose interest in reading due to the outdated and imperialistic point of view in most of portuguese literature that is given to study. What saves the YA interest in "Os Lusíadas" for most of these teens are the themes of mythology, the epic adventures and some mature content.
My idea with this story was to have each chapter be introduced by one of the epic poem's stanzas relating directly to what our heroine faces during that stage of her voyage.
